Defending champions England were defeated by Australia in Barbados by 36 runs. After the loss to their Ashes rivals, English skipper Jos Buttler praised Adam Zampa and the Australian bowling attack for restricting England's formidable batting line-up to 165, falling 36 runs short of their target.

Chasing a challenging total of 202, England started strong. Openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt came out all guns blazing, consistently finding boundaries from the outset.

Phil Salt was the first to be dismissed after a solid 37, giving England a strong foundation with 73 runs on the board. Despite Buttler's promising start, he couldn't convert it into a big score and was dismissed soon after.

These two quick wickets severely impacted England's run-chase, causing the required run rate to soar. England struggled to recover, finding boundaries increasingly difficult, and ultimately fell short by 36 runs. Zampa played the all-important role with the ball, taking two crucial wickets of the set batters, Buttler and Salt. Speaking to the broadcasters after the match, England skipper rued missed chances, but lauded Adam Zampa's bowling efforts.

“They came with a lot of intent, put us under pressure. They also bowled really well, bowled in good channels and also defended really well. The conditions were quite extreme with a shorter boundary on one side. Zampa bowled really well in the middle overs, their pacers also made use of the longer boundary well. We came second today but it's laid out for us what we need to do in the coming games." said Jos Buttler regarding his team’s defeat.

With this loss, England's chances of qualifying for the Super 8 has been dented. The defending champions will face Oman in their next match on Friday, June 14.
