SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith announced on Friday that the third season of South Africa’s premier T20 competition will begin on 9th January 2025. This month-long league will conclude on 8th February, just before the Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host.

The first two seasons of SA20 have seen a surge in popularity. The league enjoys strong support from well-established franchises, all of which are sister franchises to IPL teams.

South Africa’s rich cricketing heritage has produced many talented players, and the league has successfully retained these domestic stars while attracting international talent.

Speaking about the upcoming third season, Smith mentioned that franchises are already planning to secure some of the biggest names in the T20 circuit for the 2025 event

“Following two successful seasons, our plan is to continue to own the South African summer and provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some of the biggest names in world cricket, whether in packed stadiums or via the global broadcast," Smith said in a statement.

"Our fixtures, auction, and player announcements will be revealed over the coming months, and planning is already fully in motion. We can’t wait to bring another incredible sport and entertainment event to life for players and fans."

With SA20 scheduled for January-February and the Champions Trophy set for February, the Pakistan Cricket Board might be forced to schedule the PSL to coincide with the IPL

This could be a risky move for the PSL due to potential player unavailability and their commitments to IPL franchises.
