'That's What Annoys Me' - Wasim Akram's Brutal Take On World Cup Final's Toss

The toss played a major role in the outcome of the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and Australia at Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Australia, who opted to field first, folded India for 240 and chased down the target with ease as dew came down and made the pitch more batting-friendly, helping Pat Cummins and Co. clinch their sixth World Cup title in the process.

Following the conclusion of the final, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram suggested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should do away with the toss system in knockouts altogether.

Speaking on A Sports show 'The Pavilion', Akram stated how the toss played a crucial role in Ahmedabad and that such should not be the case in semis or finals.

Here's what Wasim Akram said

"I want that during these knockout games such as quarterfinals and semifinals…. Toss shouldn't make a difference. In Australia this matters because the seam movement starts at night. But here in the subcontinent, the batting gets easier (in the evening) because of the dew. Both teams Australia and India have worked hard to reach the final. It should be a fair chance for both sides. The game shouldn't be decided on a toss. That's what annoys me most of the time."

India, who remained unbeaten till the semi-finals, met with a crushing loss in the final against Australia, who started their competition with back-to-back losses.
