Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO and managing director Venky Mysore has welcomed Gautam Gambhir back into the franchise for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Mysore claimed that the former cricketer is not done with KKR yet, as he has many more great memories to built with the franchise.

Mysore ‘couldn’t be happier’, welcomes Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir is set to join the KKR camp as team mentor for the IPL 2024 season. The former Indian cricketer, who also captained the KKR franchise between IPL 2011 and IPL 2017 editions during his playing days, led them to their only two title wins.

Gambhir was drafted back to the Delhi Capitals base for the 2018 edition of the tournament before subsequently announcing his retirement as a player. The former cricketer later joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their mentor for two seasons (2022 and 2023) before landing the same role at KKR.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore, who was instrumental in nabbing Gambhir for the franchise back in 2011, has expressed his excitement over the cricketer’s return. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mysore welcomed the cricketer-turned-coach and claimed that the KKR zealot has many more great memories to build for the franchise.

Back in 2018, Venky Mysore claimed that the franchise did not retain Gautam Gambhir for the IPL 2018 season at the behest of the cricketer himself. As per Mysore, Gambhir had requested the KKR management to let him relocate to this home IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals for a season before he could make his retirement as a player.

The Indian legend subsequently mentored the LSG camp and led them to two successive playoffs finish during his two-year stint.
