KL Rahul Likely To Be Selected As Wicketkeeper For India's Test Series Against SA

KL Rahul is considered as one of the most technically correct batters in Indian cricket and had a good World Cup 2023 where he scored 452 runs at an average of 75.33. From the time, he made his debut back in 2014, he was touted as one of the future all-format cricketer who will serve India for a long time. Rahul though has blown hot and cold, especially in Test cricket and has an average of just 33.44.

His indifferent performances and his fitness concerns have not helped his cause and he has been in and out of the Test setup over the years. However, with KL Rahul back in full fitness now and is in great form too, it is likely that he will be considered in the Test squad as a specialist wicketkeeper. KL Rahul, apart from the final of the World Cup 2023, displayed great glovework and according to the reports, the team management is looking to fit in KL Rahul in the Indian Test squad for the South Africa tour in place of KS Bharat.

Since an unfortunate accident of Rishabh Pant, India have been struggling to find a proper solid Test wicketkeeper as KS Bharat failed big time in the opportunities he got. Ishan Kishan gave a glimpse of hope in the Test series against West Indies and scored a fifty in his second Test at Port of Spain. There is still a doubt though about the Southpaw's ability to tackle quality pace attack in difficult conditions, and that has prompted team management to look at KL Rahul again.

KL Rahul last played Test cricket in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against the mighty Aussies, where he failed to deliver. He donned the role of a specialist opener then, but it seems that the team management will look at him as a middle order batter this time around, to provide more depth to the batting unit on difficult batting tracks in South Africa.

In India's last tour of South Africa, KL Rahul lead India in the second Test at Johannesburg which India lost and even scored a century in the first Test match of that tour as an opener. So, with experience of playing in South Africa behind him, and new-renewed confidence after good performances in Asia Cup and World Cup, we might just see KL Rahul back in Indian whites for the all-important two-match Test series against South Africa in the rainbow nation.
