Rehan Ahmed Returns To England Due To Personal Reasons; Ruled Out Of 5th Test vs IND

In a massive blow to England, young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed will miss the remainder of the ongoing five-Test series against India after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the bowler will fly back to England.

Ahmed, who featured in all three Tests until the Ranchi Test, which is currently underway will leave due to an urgent family matter, which has not been made public by the ECB or the player himself.

The 19-year-old will not be returning back for the fifth and final Test at Dharamshala. Further, the ECB has opted not to seek a replacement in the squad, which is trailing the series 2-1. Ahmed finishes his maiden India tour with 11 wickets, with his best being six for 153 at Visakhapatnam.

Interestingly, England management had already decided to leave out Ahmed from the Ranchi Test, even before his decision to depart from India. 

The Nottingham-born has already tasted success in Tests, having claimed five-wicket haul for England on Debut against Pakistan, claiming seven wickets in the Karachi Match. Overall, in four Tests, Ahmed has claimed 

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and Co. have opted to rope in Shoaib Bashir as Ahmed's replacement in the playing XI, who made featured in the second Test at Visakhapatnam, which India won by 106 runs.

As of writing, England have added four runs for the first wicket stand on Day 1 of the Ranchi Test after Stokes elected to bat first.
