Joe Root's departure from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) set-up and announced absence from the looming auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) hurt veteran wristspinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who bid him farewell with gratitude for their great bonding last summer.

Responding to Root's decision to opt out of the next season to focus on England's busy international summer, his friend Chahal took to Instagram to post an emotional story, thanking the England giant for his time spent with him during IPL 2023.

Chahal re-shared a famous old clip from a special function organised by the Royals franchise for all players during their previous campaign, which had the two veteran cricketers jovially shaking a leg on the podium and continuing their unexpected friendship.

Hailing from two contrasting cultures and backgrounds, Chahal and Root spent the most time together off the field for the Royals. Even as the latter warmed the benches for most of the season, he had the Indian spinner cheering him up and lifting his spirits with funny interactions.

"Thanks for everything Joe bhai," said the discarded wristspinner, who was dropped from India's five-match T20I series against Australia but remains an integral part of the Royals family. It was a caption to one of Chahal's fondest moments with Root when the two cricketers shook a leg together during IPL 2023.

Notably, Root's decision to miss the IPL 2024 came in ahead of the deadline of November 26 set by the IPL governing council for all ten franchises to confirm their list of retained and released set of players ahead of the next month's auction in Dubai.

Root initially went unsold in the mini-auction held before IPL 2023 but was bagged by the Royals franchise for a base sum of INR 1 crores during the accelerated round. The stalwart, however, could play only three of the Royals' 14 league matches and finished with 10 runs.
