Indian batting legend Virat Kohli lived up to his name during the team’s two-match Test tour of South Africa. The cricketer punched out scores of 38 and 76 on testing conditions at Centurion and unfolded a match-winning 46 in the subsequent series decider in Cape Town.

While both teams took home the Test honors with a 1-1 result, Kohli emerged as India’s highest run-getter of the series, with 172 of them to his name.

After India’s emphatic seven-wicket win at Cape Town, former cricketer and active commentator Sanjay Manjrekar praised Virat Kohli and signified the difference between him and the next-best batter in the current Indian line-up.

Sanjay Manjrekar 'thanks god' for Virat Kohli

Prominent Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar admired modern-day batting giant Virat Kohli after the latter’s success in testing South African conditions across both Tests of the recently concluded series.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also claimed a huge difference between Kohli and the next-best batter in the current Indian line-up until Rishabh Pant gets back to the side. While speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar said:

“Thank God that India have Virat Kohli. He showed on this SA tour, the kind of challenges that batters face that there's a big distance between him and the next best Test batter in India at least until Rishabh Pant is back.”

A few days after India toured South Africa, Virat Kohli found his name among the team’s 16-player squad for their upcoming home T20I series against Afghanistan. The series marks his return to India’s T20I setup, considering he played the last of his 115 matches for India back during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

The series against Afghanistan will commence on January 11 at Mohali’s INS Stadium. The fixtures also serve as their final set of T20I matches before this year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
