Celebrated Indian cricketer and former captain Virat Kohli made a splash appearance at the Mumbai airport as he returned from South Africa earlier today.

Kohli landed in the Rainbow Nation in late December to feature in the highly-anticipated two-game Test series with the Proteas. While the trophy was shared between Rohit Sharma and Dean Elgar, Kohli registered a successful campaign by being the leading run scorer for the men in blue.

Virat Kohli collected 127 runs across four innings and posed a big threat to the opposition. However, unfortunately, the batting stalwart couldn’t guide India to a series victory.

Nonetheless, Virat Kohli was a happy man when he returned home to Mumbai earlier today. The batter was spotted by paparazzi at the airport and cordially obliged to the photo request.

Kohli To Feature In AFG T20 Series?

That being said, Kohli’s arrival back in India comes at a crucial juncture. The pivotal T20 World Cup 2024 is just months away, and ahead of the major tournament, India is scheduled to host Afghanistan in a three-game T20 series.

While Virat Kohli and even captain Rohit Sharma have been skipping the shorter format for over a year, the veteran duo of Rohit-Virat is expected to feature in this series.

The increased importance of the series stems from the actual nature of T20 World Cup preparations. Rumours have it that Rohit and Virat expressed keen interest to be a part of the bilateral series in order to begin preparations for the T20 World Cup.

However, earlier rumours also suggested that BCCI intends to move on from the Kohli-Rohit duo as far as the T20 format is concerned. But then again, with Hardik Pandya’s availability in jeopardy, the board is short of alternatives.

Thus, the dependable duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will most likely be seen fighting against the Afghans later this month.

Having said that, the squad for the T20 series against Afghanistan is expected to be announced later today as the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar huddles in Mumbai.
