Deepti Sharma led India’s spirited fightback against Australia Women in the second T20I of their three-match series at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. The cricketer, tasked to bowl the eighth over of the Australian run-chase, struck off the very first ball of her spell by removing visiting skipper Alyssa Healy.

After Australian openers Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy raced to a 51-run partnership off just seven overs, the latter of the two cricketers stepped out of her crease to bludgeon Deepti Sharma for a boundary towards long-on.

However, Healy with her big hit found an agile Shreyanka Patil deep in the field instead, who took a sharp low catch to give India a much-needed breakthrough in the innings.

Notably, Healy’s departure emboldened Deepti Sharma to trap Beth Mooney the following over to tilt the game back in India’s favour at 58-2.

Deepti eventually bowled out her quote to concede just 22 runs off her four overs. Spin teammate Shreyanka Patil, meanwhile, dismissed Tahlia McGrath against the run of play as Australia slipped to 89-3 off 14 overs.

Just at a time when the game was heading towards an exciting finish, Phoebe Litchfield and veteran Ellyse Perry blasted 17 runs off Patil’s penultimate over to seal the deal for Australia Women with six wickets and six balls to spare.

Australia’s run-chase masterclass also brought the three-match series to levelling terms, and the two sides will now face each other in the decider at the same venue on January 9.
