Former India keeper turned RCB's batting coach Dinesh Karthik has heaped massive praise on Shubman Gill, who recently silenced his critics with a sublime century against Bangladesh.

Despite a duck in the first innings, Gill played a crucial role in India's historic 280-run win over The Tigers as he amassed an unbeaten 119(176) in the second innings. His knock included ten fours and four sixes. Karthik hailed Gill's six-hitting ability in the latest events and compared him with Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.

Karthik Compares Gill With Pollard And Russell

"He's got a great technique to hit sixes," Karthik said. "He is a tall man with a longer lever, and with that backlift, he generates a lot of power—all the three clean sixes .he hit them in the gap. There are two types of six-hitters. One is the likes of Pollard and Russell, who don't care who's in the field- they just hit them way over the ropes. and then there are players like Gill, who look to hit them in the gaps for sixes," said Karthik speaking to Cricbuzz.

Further, Karthik stated that he seeks greatness in Gill, but want to assess him after he plays in challenging conditions.

"Whenever I look at Shubman Gill, I see greatness in him. It is only in challenging conditions that I will assess him, because otherwise nobody can stop him," he added.

When Karthik Questioned Gill's Place In The Playing XI

There was a time when Gill's place in the Indian team was questioned by Karthik after his failure in the Test against South Africa in 2023.

“Shubman Gill is the big question mark here. He has not lived up to the expectations that people have. I think even he would be aware that if you are going to average mid-30s or early-30s after having played 20 Tests, then you would consider yourself to be a bit lucky to be around. His place will definitely be under the scanner if he doesn't have a great Test match in the next one,” Karthik had told Cricbuzz.

India will next face Bangladesh on September 27 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
