The Duleep Trophy 2024 is done and dusted, and the Indian domestic season now shifts to the prestigious Irani Trophy clash. Mumbai are the reigning Ranji Trophy Champions and so, they will be featuring this year in Irani Trophy against Rest of India. The match will be played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow starting from October 1, and it promises to be a cracking contest with plenty of domestic superstars in action.

So, ahead of the clash, let's see what could be the playing XI of Rest of India for the high-octane clash.

Openers - Ruturaj Gaikwad And Abhimanyu Easwaran

The openers of Rest of India are likely to be Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Both are consistent domestic performers and have been part of the Indian team in the past. They were also leading Duleep Trophy teams recently and Easwaran came out as the second leading run-scorer of the tournament with 309 runs in five innings. Gaikwad did not score runs according to his billing, but is still a quality batter and the fourth highest-run scorer of the tournament.

Middle Order - Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Sanju Samson

Sai Sudharsan is one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket and recently scored a brilliant century under pressure in the Duleep Trophy match. He also played County Championship in England recently and scored a century there, so selectors are likely to provide him more chances in red-ball cricket.

At number 4, Padikkal is likely to be selected as he did well for India in the only Test match he has played and also did decently in the Duleep Trophy match and has a good record for Karnataka in first-class cricket. At number 5, Ricky Bhui is likely to get a nod as he was the leading run-scorer in Duleep Trophy and displayed great temperament under pressure.

The wicketkeeper's spot is likely to go to Sanju Samson in place of Ishan Kishan as Samson scored more runs than Ishan in the recently held Duleep Trophy.

All-Rounders - Washington Sundar, Saurabh Kumar

Washington Sundar and Saurabh Kumar are likely to the two spinners in the XI. They can bat too and could be very handy at the Ekana, the pitch which is considered more suitable for finger spinners. Saurabh Kumar has been a leading all-rounder in domestic cricket for quite a few years now, while Washington has played across formats for India and has done well.

Bowlers - Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Kumar

The three pacers in the XI are likely to be Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj and Mukesh Kumar. Mukesh Kumar has played Test cricket for India and took 15 wickets in matches of Duleep trophy. He has a brilliant average of 21.38 in first-class cricket and will be partnered by Anshul Kamboj, who was the leading wicket-taker of Duleep Trophy 2024. Arshdeep Singh also displayed his class with 9 wickets in a single match and selectors would be looking to try him out in the Irani game as well.
