Australia Women’s World Cup campaign has hit a tense moment, with captain Alyssa Healy recovering from a calf injury that forced her to miss the recent clash against England. Vice-captain Tahlia McGrath shared that Healy’s progress is being monitored day by day.

Healy picked up the injury during a training session earlier this week, just before the high-voltage match against England in Indore.

Despite her absence, the defending champions delivered a strong performance, defeating their arch-rivals by 6 wickets to move to the top of the World Cup standings.

Tahlia McGrath confident of Alyssa Healy’s swift recovery

Ahead of Australia’s clash against South Africa, vice-captain Tahlia McGrath shared a major injury update on Alyssa Healy

Talking to the media, McGrath said Healy’s recovery is going smoothly, but the medical team isn’t rushing her return.

"She will definitely be back. It's a bit of a day-by-day (prognosis) and I'll leave that in the hands of the physio. I think she's tracking nicely, but a bit of a day-by-day progress," McGrath said.

Australia’s next challenge is their final group-stage match against South Africa on Saturday in Indore.

A win there will confirm their position at the top of the table, setting up a semi-final clash against the fourth-placed team once the group stage ends on October 29.

Hence, Tahlia McGrath is confident of skipper Healy’s return sometime around the semi-final.

McGrath on Australia’s win vs England

Even without their captain, Australia looked confident and composed against England. Ashleigh Gardner starred with a brilliant century, while Annabel Sutherland provided solid support to steer the team home.

Tahlia McGrath admitted that while the victory was satisfying, the team still has areas to polish before the knockout rounds.

"There is certainly lots to improve on from this game. For us, it's that belief that from any position that we can win. So fine tune a few areas and still keeping that belief and that momentum going," she added.

Meanwhile, England’s loss means they can no longer finish first in the standings. They will battle New Zealand in Vizag on Sunday to secure a semi-final spot.
