'Surprising For Us..'- Ex-India Coach Reveals Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's Secret Retirement Plans

It was an emotional day for the Indian fans when they beat South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on June 29, as they lifted the prestigious T20 title for the 2nd time. 

While the fans and players were celebrating the historic win, it was also a sad moment for the Indian fans as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20Is after the final. 

Virat and Rohit remarked that it is time for new players to lead the side and stated that they would continue to feature in the fifty-over format and red-ball format.

In the latest events, former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey revealed that even the players and coaching staff were shocked to learn about the veterans retiring. 

Paras stated that he was unaware of the move before the game and added that the veterans might have revealed their plans to then head coach Rahul Dravid.

"I think no one was expecting that (the retirement announcements)," Mhambrey told Hindustan Times.


 "If you had any conversation earlier, we would have known this would be coming. But none of them had this conversation. If, individually or privately, they had a conversation with someone like Rahul (Dravid), that's a different thing, but not amongst the team or other individuals. So that was a little surprising for us as well," he said.

After the World Cup,  Paras Mhambrey's tenure with Indian side ended as Gautam Gambhir took over as India's new head coach.
