India Women’s batting star Smriti Mandhana achieved a historic milestone during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka, becoming only the fourth woman cricketer to reach 10,000 international runs. From someone who debuted in 2014, Mandhana has grown into one of the most prominent faces of batting in world cricket.
The drive behind mount 10,000 international runs
This year has been remarkable for Mandhana, highlighted by a key role in India’s Women’s ODI World Cup victory. The stylish left-hander has scored 1,703 runs in 2025 so far, the highest tally ever in a calendar year in women’s cricket history.
Despite her personal success, Mandhana emphasized the importance of starting fresh in every game. Leaving past performances behind and focusing on each format’s demands has driven her determination to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs.
"I feel in cricket you have to start from zero. It doesn’t matter what you did in the last match or series. There are days when runs come and days they don’t, so you can’t overthink. It’s all about preparing your mind ahead of every match," Mandhana said in a video posted by BCCI.
Mandhana reflects on a big year and areas for improvement
Mandhana acknowledged that while 2025 has been a big year personally and for the team, especially as they also ticked off their maiden World Cup title, there is still room for improvement in multiple areas.
"The World Cup was a big achievement, but there have been instances where we could have won more games this year. This team is still a work in progress, and I feel there are many areas to improve in fitness, running, fielding, and power hitting, especially in T20s," Mandhana added.
Ending on a positive note, Mandhana thanked her fans for their unwavering support and expressed hope that the backing for Indian women’s cricket will continue to grow in the coming days.
With her blend of experience, skill, and leadership, Mandhana remains a central figure in Indian cricket, inspiring young players as she and India Women now set their sights on the T20 World Cup in 2026.
