West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has capped off an incredible 2025 by becoming the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket in a single calendar year. He broke the long-standing record of Afghanistan’s spin sensation Rashid Khan.

Holder, 34, achieved the milestone during the ILT20 2025 season in Dubai, picking up 2 wickets for 24 runs for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders against the Gulf Giants. 

Jason Holder surpasses Rashid Khan

That spell took Jason Holder’s tally for the year to 97 wickets in 69 matches, surpassing Rashid Khan’s previous record of 96 wickets set in 2018.

The West Indies captain led from the front in the match, guiding the Knight Riders to a 32-run win, pushing them above the Giants into fourth place on the points table.

What makes Holder’s achievement even more impressive is that he took these wickets while playing for five different franchise teams across global T20 leagues, in addition to representing the West Indies national side.

Jason Holder has also become a specialist in death overs. Out of his 97 wickets this year, 45 came in the death overs, more than any other T20 player. His previous best was 59 wickets in 43 matches in 2022, meaning he increased his success rate by over 64%. 

Holder’s all-round ability makes him a highly sought-after player in franchise cricket. This was clear at the IPL 2026 auction, where Gujarat Titans bought him for 7 crore, far above his base price of INR 2 crore, after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.

Noor Ahmad, Hasan Ali follow Jason Holder

In 2025, Jason Holder topped the charts for picking the most wickets in T20s. Noor Ahmad is placed second with 85 wickets, followed by Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf at 71 and 66 wickets, respectively. 

Rashid Khan, meanwhile, had an off-year marred by injuries as he registered just 63 wickets in 55 T20 games.
