After leading India as one of its most iconic captains, Sourav Ganguly made a powerful comeback to serve Indian cricket off the field, years after his international retirement. In 2019, he was elected as BCCI President and had almost 3 years tenure with the richest board.

Known for exceptional man-management skills, Ganguly handled the Indian cricket alongside former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. Recently, the former India captain opened up about his early expectations of working with Shah, and how reality turned out to be a surprising contrast.

Ganguly Showers Heartfelt Praises For Jay Shah

As a captain and a player, Sourav Ganguly’s contribution is known to everyone, but his tenure as the BCCI President was nothing short of glorious. After joining BCCI, arranging IPL in Dubai during the COVID-19 pandemic would be a forever milestone. Throughout his impactful three-year tenure, Jay Shah played a vital role, working tirelessly to support and elevate Indian cricket.

Recently, while speaking to the PTI, the former BCCI President shared how he expected Jay Shah’s nature to be, but he was left mesmerized by his dedication later on.

“He (Jay) had his own way of doing things but the best thing about him was he wanted to do things properly for Indian cricket. See, he had the power, the support, so you expected certain kind of toughness, stubbornness from him but he would do things for Indian cricket,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly Reflects On Shah’s Principal

Sourav Ganguly has shared a deep bond with the game of cricket both as a player and an administrator, but Jay Shah comes from a political family. While talking about Jay Shah’s way of work, the former Indian skipper hailed his honesty and work principles.

“He is very honest, he always had the thought (about) who he was at the back of his mind, what baggage he carried. So, he wanted to do things rightfully and properly all the time,” he said.

“All of us made mistakes, I did, he did. It was never intentional, but the game never stopped,” he added.

After Ganguly stepped down from the cricket board in September 2022, he took on a new role as the Chairperson of the ICC Men's Cricket Committee. Meanwhile, Jay Shah reached a historic milestone of his own, becoming the youngest ICC Chairman in December 2024.
