The red ball drama is ignited at Headingley as the cricket world is witnessing a deadly battle between India and England. With Indian bowlers toiling on Day 5, Team India is desperate to spark a turnaround and kick off their WTC cycle on a strong note.
Chasing the target in the second innings, the English batters are thriving on their home soil. Adding to this, Ben Duckett etched his name in the rare record books against Ravindra Jadeja.
Ben Duckett Shows Dominance Over Jadeja
After putting on a batting show in both innings, Team India’s bowling struggles continued in both innings. As England gave a dominating start to their second innings while chasing the 371-run total, Indian bowlers struggled to break their opening partnership as the Crawley-Duckett duo stitched a 188-run partnership.
While dominating the Indian bowlers, Ben Duckett put Ravindra Jadeja in a tough place. Since 2006, only nine players have pulled off a six with a reverse sweep in Tests, and Duckett dazzled by hitting two such sixes off Jadeja.
The latest six in the reverse sweep came into the ongoing clash. In the 52nd over, with Jadeja targeting the leg stump, Ben Duckett unleashed a masterful reverse sweep on the final delivery, sending the ball soaring into the stands and etching a rare milestone in his name.
Duckett Delivers Outstanding Effort To Push England Into Secure Position
After Team India put on a 371-run target on the board, England had a dreamy start, depending on Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett’s partnership. While India hoped to seize early control on Day 5, the English duo flipped the script with a stunning 188-run opening partnership.
After Zak Crawley walked away on 65 runs, Duckett kept the momentum. He brought up a brilliant century in just 121 balls and went on to smash a stunning 149 off 170 deliveries, falling heartbreakingly short of a memorable 150-run milestone.
However, in front of England’s exceptional batting, Indian bowling remained toothless. While Prasidh Krishna removed both openers and Shardul Thakur added two more, the hosts held control. With six wickets still in hand, England now has their sights firmly set on victory.
