'Similar To An Off-Spinner' - Ravi Ashwin Hails Pat Cummins In World Cup Final

Ravichandran Ashwin heaped a huge praise on Australian skipper Pat Cummins after the latter led his side to World Cup glory at the 2023 final against India. The legendary spinner hailed Cummins’ tactical field placements on the big day, one which restricted a strong Indian batting line-up from opening up their shoulders in the backend of their innings.


Ashwin hails Cummins captaincy masterclass

Ravichandran Ashwin, who played just one match throughout the 2023 World Cup, praised Australian captain Pat Cummins for leading his side to a one-sided win over an unbeaten Indian team on the day of the final.

"Final was a tactical masterclass by Pat Cummins, he had 4-5 fielding setup, similar to an off spinner, hitting stump line - he bowled only 3 balls in the 6-meter mark towards the stump line as not allowing batters to drive - he bowled all overs without mid-off, a masterclass," said Ashwin on his Youtube channel.

Team India, despite racing to 80-2 in their opening powerplay, were restricted to just 240 by the end of their 50 overs owing to some tight bowling from Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, spinner Adam Zampa and captain Cummins himself.

Cummins picked up the key Indian wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, conceding just 34 runs from his 10 overs.

Meanwhile, both the finalist of the World Cup 2023 are currenting fighting in a five-match T20I series, scheduled to be played between November 23 and December 3.
