Team India’s defeat to Australia at the 2023 World Cup final seems to have ignited a political warfare throughout the country. Mere days after Uttar Pradesh opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav claimed that India would have won the title if the final had taken place in Lucknow, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has now made a similar assertion about her ruling state.

Mamata Banerjee makes big claim on World Cup 2023 final

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee believes the Indian cricket team would have won the 2023 World Cup had the title clash been taken place at either Kolkata’s Eden Gardens or Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

While addressing her political party workers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, she said:

“We are proud of our Indian players, and I believe that we would have won the World Cup if the finals had taken place in Calcutta or Wankhede.”

Earlier this week, Uttar Pradesh opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav claimed that if the World Cup 2023 final had taken place in Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, the Indian team would have gotten the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Regardless, the Indian team lost a one-sided final by six wickets at a near capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.

In spite of captain Rohit Sharma’s early powerplay bombardment in the title clash, Team India only managed to muster 240 upfront in their innings after they were put into bat first by Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Australia overhauled their task with seven overs to spare, courtesy of a run-chase masterclass from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne.
