Former India fielding coach, R Sridhar has insisted that the Indian team management is planning for the future and they see Shubman Gill as the next all-format captain.

Gill, one of the most talented players across the globe is often touted as the future of the nation. At just 24, he has cemented his place in all three formats, and was recently made the white-ball vice-captain for the Sri Lanka tour.


Gill is Rohit's successor: R Sridhar

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, R Sridhar stressed upon the fact that the Indian team sees Gill as a direct captaincy replacement of Rohit Sharma, and after the 2027 World Cup, he will lead India across formats.

"Shubman Gill is an all-format player and he would be the apprentice to captain Rohit Sharma in Tests and ODIs. I am sure India will see him as the captain post 2027 World Cup in all formats."

Having made his international debut in 2019, Gill has been fast-tracked by the team management, and the talented opener had a breakout 2023 season. He amassed 1584 runs in just 29 matches, with an average of 63, and a highest score of 208, which came up against New Zealand.

Recently, there have been talks that Gill is likely to be the new vice-captain for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
