The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners have called for a separate board for the Pakistan-based T20 tournament. As of now, the PSL competition is supervised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Among all franchises, Quetta Gladiators has reportedly been one of the most vocal ones in expressing the need for an independent PSL board. Gladiators’ chairman Nadeem Omar has even claimed that the issues faced by the PCB are vastly different from those faced by the PSL.

PSL franchises call for a separate board

Quetta Gladiators chairman Nadeem Omar has said that PSL requires a separate board which can discuss its issues directly and resolve them more efficiently. He explained that as of now, PSL franchises have to communicate with Salman Naseer due to the busy schedule of Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB.

As per Omar, direct co-ordination with an independent chairman will be more effective for a smooth functioning of PSL as well as for the competing franchises.

The PSL is currently on the cusp of facing scheduling conflicts for its 2025 edition. With Pakistan slated to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, the PSL 2025 season will likely collide with the IPL 2025 season in India. Nadeem Omar stated that organizing PSL 2025 in tandem with IPL 2025 might tempt overseas players to opt for the latter.

As per the media report, the Quetta Gladiators chairman also expressed his confidence on the success of PSL 2025, as he believes that organizing the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan will only enhance the value of the T20 competition.
