India’s pace superstar Jasprit Bumrah will be back in action for the third Test against England at Lord’s. Indian captain Shubman Gill confirmed this exciting update after the team's big win at Edgbaston.
Bumrah missed the second Test at Edgbaston due to rest and team management strategy. But even without their strike bowler, India crushed England by 336 runs, their biggest Test win over England away from home. The win also helped Gill and Co. level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 1-1.
Jasprit Bumrah Set To Return At Lords
In a post-match interview, India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill, has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will return to the playing XI in the third Test against England scheduled at Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 10.
"[Jasprit] Bumrah is definitely playing at Lord's," Gill said in press.
Bumrah’s return will boost India’s pace attack even more. Akash Deep stepped up in the ace pacer’s absence, taking a 10-wicket match haul. He took 6-99 in the second innings and became only the second Indian bowler after Chetan Sharma (1986) to take 10 wickets in a Test in England.
Siraj was equally impressive as he picked 7 wickets in two innings. Prasidh Krishna will likely have to make way for Bumrah, as he not only was ineffective in taking wickets but also struggled to contain runs.
Indian Pacers Step Up In Bumrah’s Absence
Team India has proven time and again that their bowling unit can deliver even without Jasprit Bumrah. In 5 incredible Tests, Indian bowlers picked all 20 wickets even in the absence of Bumrah. From the historic Gabba victory in 2021, when Siraj was the star, to spin-friendly victories in Chattogram and Mirpur in 2022, the team rose to the occasion every time.
In 2023, Ashwin's 12-wicket performance in Roseau led India to victory against the West Indies. Now, in 2025 at Edgbaston, Mohammed Siraj and rookie Akash Deep tore through England's batting to tie the series.
