Team India completed a 336-run routing of England on a rain-marred Day 5 of the second Test. Akash Deep picked up six wickets in the decisive innings to complete 10 for the match as India levelled the five-match series 1-1 with three Tests to spare.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 5 of the second Test match, as it panned out at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, July 6.

Akash Deep Strikes Early With Pope, Brook Wickets

Indian fast bowler Akash Deep removed both overnight batters, Ollie Pope (24 off 50) and Harry Brook (23 off 31) within the first six overs of the day as England slipped to 83-5. Captain Ben Stokes at number six formulated England’s recovery, at least to some extent, alongside Jamie Smith to take his team past the 150-run mark.

By the time of England reaching 153-5 in 40 overs, Stokes had washed up 73 deliveries to score 33 fighting runs before getting caught plumb in front by Indian spinner Washington Sundar.

Jamie Smith’s 88 In Vain As Akash Wins It For India

Jamie Smith notched up his second fifty-plus score of the match by listing 88 quick runs off just 99 balls. After sharing a 70-run partnership with Stokes, Smith crafted swift stands with Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse to steer England past the 200-run mark.

Akash Deep, however, polished off the English tail for 271 in 68.1 overs to claim sensational figures of 6-99. Prasidh Krishna and spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar also picked up a wicket each as India secured a huge 336-run win to level the five-match series.
