Instances When Indian Bowlers Managed To Take All 20 Test Wickets Without Jasprit Bumrah

When Jasprit Bumrah decided to rest himself for the Edgbaston Test match, there was a sense of panic in the Indian dressing room as Bumrah was a vital cog in the bowling lineup and was India's best bet to seal a win in the second Test. However, what transpired was nothing short of a miracle as the Indian bowlers decimated England to seal the win and level the series.

Almost everyone chipped in but the star of the show were the two pacers who had everything to prove - Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. The deadly duo led from the front and picked up wickets respectively as India, for the first time won a Test at Edgbaston.

This was the fifth time that the Indian bowlers managed to pick up 20 wickets in a Test match in Bumrah's absence, and that in itself is a monumental feat. Here is a list of all the instances when India picked up all 20 wickets in the absence of their star seamer.

1) Brisbane Test Vs Australia - 2021

The famous "Gabba" Test match where India breached Australia's fortress and won the series without their main players. Heading into the Gabba Test, the series was evenly poised at 1-1, and India played the match without Bumrah. 

His absence wasn't felt much as Mohammed Siraj spearheaded the Indian attack as the Asian Giants managed to scalp all 20 wickets and won the match by chasing 328.

2) Chattogram Test Vs Bangladesh - 2022

Bumrah was injured for the second half of the 2022 and India entered the two-match Test series Vs Bangladesh without their star boy. However, his absence was not felt as the surface at Chattogram favoured the spinners as Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav ran riot to help India win the match.

3) Mirpur Test Vs Bangladesh - 2022

Bumrah was also not there for the second Test match and once again the same story repeated. The likes of Jaydev Unadkat, Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin were the stars with the ball as India dismissed the Tigers twice and Bumrah wasn't needed.

4) Roseau Test Vs West Indies - 2023

India toured West Indies for a two-match Test series and while the second game was a draw due to rain, India did win the first Test. R Ashwin picked up a fifer in the first innings to dismantle the Windies side. In the second innings, Ashwin once again was the star as he scalped 7 wickets and helped India win the match.

5) Edgbaston Test Vs England - 2025

Bumrah was rested for the Edgbaston Test match and the duo of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep shouldered the responsibility of wicket-taking. The duo ran riot as England had no answers and gave away 20 wickets to the Indian bowlers, with Siraj and Akash Deep dominating.
