Derbyshire’s Aneurin Donald has entered the record books after smashing a breathtaking 13-ball fifty in the T20 Blast, equalling the record for the fastest half-century in the tournament’s history. His whirlwind knock came against Yorkshire at Chesterfield.

In the first inning, Yorkshire posted 200 runs on the board after collective contributions from the batting lineup. Jordan Thompson’s late fireworks, 37* off 11 balls, propped Yorkshire to touch the 200-run mark.

Meanwhile, in the second inning, opener Aneurin Donald went ballistic. He came out with clear intent and didn’t waste any time. In just 13 balls, he raced to a half century, which is the joint fastest in T20 Blast’s history.

Marcus Trescothick, the present England assistant coach, held the record before with a 13-ball fifty back in 2010.

Owing to Donald’s fireworks, Derbyshire had 63 runs on the board in just 4 overs. Despite getting hit on the head by William O’Rourke, he continued to bat and scored 85 runs off just 30 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes.

Aneurin Donald set the stage for Derbyshire, and the rest of the batting lineup chased down the total of 201 runs in 17.2 overs to win the game by 7 wickets.

Opening batter Aneurin Donald has been Derbyshire's outstanding performer in the 2025 T20 Blast, with explosive batting form. In 10 matches, he has hammered 312 runs at a scorching strike rate of 212.24, the highest among the leaders of the top scorers' list.

His consistency is marked by four blistering fifties, the best being 85. Though not able to score a century, Donald's aggressive attitude and capability to clear the boundary, hitting 23 sixes and 30 fours, have established him as one of the most feared batsmen this season.
