Former India cricketer and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu took a sharp dig at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stand-in captain MS Dhoni following the team's humiliating loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk on Friday, April 11. This defeat marks a historic low for the five-time IPL champions, who have now lost five consecutive matches in the ongoing season.

MS Dhoni Takes Brutal Dig At MSD

The match also marked the return of MS Dhoni as captain after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury. Dhoni, who last captained CSK full-time in IPL 2023, was brought back to lead the side in his absence.

CSK collapsed to 103 runs in front of their home crowd, offering little resistance to the KKR bowlers. The visitors chased down the target with ease and secured a dominant eight-wicket win.

Commenting live during the game, Navjot Singh Sidhu criticised the hype surrounding MS Dhoni’s return.

"Arey Dhoni aa rahe hain ji jaise sher aaya, sher aaya, hype thi, badi excitement thi, par khoda pahaad nikli chuhiya. (People were saying Dhoni is coming, the lion is coming. There was so much hype and excitement. But there was nothing to be seen)," said Sidhu during live commentary.

The 43-year-old Dhoni's individual performance also mirrored the team’s struggles. Coming in to bat after all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin, Dhoni could manage only a single run before falling to Sunil Narine.

Can CSK Qualify For Playoffs?

With this loss, CSK finds themselves in a precarious position in the points table. Out of the remaining eight matches in the league stage, the Chennai-based franchise needs to win at least seven to have a realistic shot at qualifying for the playoffs. If they fail to do so, it would be the first time in the franchise's history that they miss out on the playoffs in two consecutive seasons.
