CSK are reportedly trading veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR in exchange for Sanju Samson. However, ex-CSK spinner Ashwin feels the move could hurt fans’ sentiments.
According to reports, Jadeja could be traded to the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, while CSK are aggressively pursuing Sanju Samson.
The wicketkeeper-batter has reportedly expressed his desire to leave RR after IPL 2025, and Chennai have shown serious interest.
Ravichandran Ashwin justifies fans’ sentiments for Jadeja
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from IPL earlier this year, admitted that he completely understands why fans are emotional about the possible exit of Ravindra Jadeja, one of CSK’s most trusted players over the years.
“I totally get the emotional angle of the fans, but I am obliged to say that this is very unlike CSK. The sentiments of the fans are completely justified. CSK’s identity was stability and trust in players and that was a huge message," Ashwin said.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin, who has been a core part of CSK, said this rumour feels strange because Chennai has always been known for valuing loyalty and keeping its core group intact.
"This is how CSK built a quality brand. Of course, it was all built around Dhoni; there is no doubt about that and that is why this particular piece of news is a bit difficult for a lot of fans to digest," he added.
The 38-year-old also revealed that social media has been filled with fans expressing sadness and disbelief at the idea of Ravindra Jadeja leaving the yellow brigade.
"I am actually looking at it again and again and again and I am thinking CSK have probably missed a trick. All I have seen on Instagram over the last few days is about how they are all feeling bad about Jadeja leaving the franchise."
Interestingly, Jadeja has been a key part of CSK’s success, featuring in 186 matches for the franchise. He has scored 2,198 runs and taken 143 wickets, becoming one of the most valuable all-rounders in IPL history.
Even though reports suggest that the trade deal could soon be finalised, both franchises have remained silent.
Complications halt CSK-RR deal
Meanwhile, according to reports, a three-player trade deal between CSK and RR has been stalled due to multiple complications.
Firstly, RR reportedly have no overseas slot to accommodate Sam Curran. Hence, unless they release a foreign player, the deal cannot go through.
Another factor that might be affecting this deal is Ravindra Jadeja’s alleged demand for captaincy.
Rajasthan were reportedly planning to appoint Yashasvi Jaiswal or Dhruv Jurel as Sanju Samson’s successor. But Jadeja’s demands, if true, could change the dynamics.
