Hours after Ravichandran Ashwin dropped an IPL trade bomb between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, fresh reports indicate that the Ambani-owned franchise are currently engaged in discussions over Shardul Thakur and Arjun Tendulkar for a 'not so' high-profile player exchange.

While it is still unclear whether the names of these two players might be involved in a separate exchange or transactions independent of each other, it could also turn out to be a straightforward all-cash deal instead of an IPL trade.

Insider reveals trade deal almost finalised

As per a Cricbuzz report, insiders from Mumbai Indians have confirmed to the media outlet that "the exchange swap is a possibility". The announcement is expected to be confirmed in the next few days as the player retention list releases on November 15.

Arjun Tendulkar has been an on-and-off part of the Mumbai Indians setup for the last couple of seasons. Having been picked at his base price of INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the left-handed all-rounder failed to get any game time in the recently concluded season. Overall, Arjun has taken 3 wickets and scored 13 runs in his IPL career, featuring in 5 matches.

Thakur to fill Deepak Chahar's place?

Shardul Thakur, meanwhile, if involved in the transaction, could be a solid alternative for Deepak Chahar, who remains injury-prone, and can fill the void for an Indian pacer if Chahar is ruled out of any game.

Nevertheless, as reports suggest that the franchises are in discussions over a possible trade or exchange, and since the BCCI has mandated that any player exchange must be officially announced, the franchises have remained silent for now.
