All the participating teams in the Champions Trophy have announced their squad, except for Pakistan. The side will reveal their team in the next couple of days, and the major reason for their announcement delay is the injury to their star opener, Saim Ayub.

The Pakistan player suffered a gruesome ankle injury while playing in the Test series Vs South Africa, earlier this month. He was expected to be ruled out for 6 weeks and was flown to London fort further treatment. There was a sense of optimism that the opener will be fit enough to play in the mega event, however, there could be some bad news on the way for Pakistan fans.

Recently, in a media interaction, PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi was asked about Saim Ayub's injury status and he seemingly ruled Ayub out of the Champions Trophy.

"Saim Ayub's leg cast will come off in 1-2 days. After that, he will enter the recovery phase, which will take time. I don't want to put his future at risk because of one Champions Trophy," Naqvi stated.

Who can replace Ayub?

As per reports, the Champions Trophy squad has been finalised and Fakhar Zaman is likely to replace Ayub in the squad. The star opener was outcasted from the team for his tweet in favour of Babar Azam, but will now be back in the team.

Also, out of favour, Imam-ul-Haq is likely to return, with Abdullah Shafique, who had a torrid 2024 is likely to be excluded from the team.

Also, the core members of the team, like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf will be in the team as Pakistan looks to defend their crown.
