After thrashing West Indies in a dominating fashion in the first Test in Multan, there is more good news which has followed Pakistan cricket. According to Cricket Pakistan, Saim Ayub, the star opener who got injured during the first Test vs South Africa will not be required to have any surgery, however, there is still no timeline of his exact return to the field.

The star opener's fate is to be decided next week as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to announce the Champions Trophy squad in the upcoming week. Saim twisted his ankle while running to stop the ball from reaching the boundary ropes Vs South Africa. He was immediately taken for scans and it was expected that he'll miss a minimum of 6 weeks of cricket.

Will Saim Ayub be included in Champions Trophy squad?

As per the doctors in London, who are treating Saim, the batter doesn't require to have any surgery and his injury could be treated by vigorous rehabilitation plan. The selection committee is waiting for a clearance on Saim's injury status and accordingly will announce their team for the mega event.

Fakhar Zaman likely to be back, no place for Shafique?

As per reports, Pakistan are considering including Fakhar Zaman in the side as the first choice opener alongside Saim Ayub (subject to fitness), and there could be no room for Abdullah Shafique, who had a torrid time in 2024.

The right-handed batter struggled for runs and was also replaced in the Test squad on the South African tour, as well as the first Test at home Vs West Indies.

The core of the team - Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan will remain the same as Pakistan eye their second Champions Trophy title.
