Tilak Varma produced a breath-taking knock in the second T20I Vs England to steal the show and win the game for his side. At one point, India were in a spot of bother, as they lost a flurry of wickets, however, it was Tilak, who calmed things down and steered India past the winning line on a tricky surface as the hosts took a 2-0 lead in the series.

He showed grit and determination and was at his absolute best as India won a nervy contest and snatched the win from jaws of defeat. Tilak, is still young and is not only a backbone for the Indian batting lineup, but is also crucial for his IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians.

In this article, we'll talk about 3 major reasons as to why Tilak is more important to Mumbai Indians than his former captain, Rohit Sharma.

3) Tilak has been Mumbai's best player for the last 3 seasons

Barring the 2024 season, Rohit Sharma struggled for runs in the IPL 2022, 2023 season. On the other hand, when Mumbai's IPL campaign was going down, a young Tilak Varma stood tall and was the difference maker for his team.

Alongside Suryakumar Yadav, he was their best player and racked up runs for fun and won countless matches for his team. Expect the southpaw to deliver the goods once again in the upcoming IPL season.

2) Tilak has been in outstanding form

He scored twin centuries in the T20Is Vs South Africa and played arguably his best T20I innings Vs England on Saturday night. He is the man in form for Mumbai and the franchise would expect him to continue the run-scoring form in IPL 2025 as well.

With runs on the back, he is carrying a difference confidence altogether and will be riding high on his new found form.

1) Rohit's poor run may hamper MI

Rohit Sharma failed in the New Zealand series, he failed in the Australia Tests and had poor outing in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy game.

An out of form Rohit will not help Mumbai Indians' cause as the batter is likely to open the innings, and if he is not amongst the run-scorers, the entire team will get disrupted. Rohit is MI's most trusted weapon with the bat, but if he is out of form, the team won't get the desired opening start they would want.
