In a significant development, there are reports that India skipper Rohit Sharma and star seamer Mohammed Shami had a heated exchange during New Zealand's tour to India. As per Hindustan Times, the two confronted each other during the 1st Test in Bengaluru when Shami was present at the NCA.

It is worth noting that Shami, who has been out of the Indian side since the 2023 World Cup final, was recovering at the NCA when this incident took place. Notably, at that time, Shami was unhappy with Rohit's remarks on his fresh knee injury that he sustained during rehabilitation. 

"When Shami was at NCA, he met Rohit during the 1st Test in Bengaluru. During their meeting, the two had a heated exchange over the captain's remark on Shami when asked about his current status and availability for the New Zealand and Australia Test series," Jagran quoted a source as saying.

Notably, around the New Zealand series, Shami was in the final stages of his rehabilitation, and his name was around for selection in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the injury was a setback to Shami, and he hit back at the media reports for spreading fake news regarding his knee injury.

What Did Rohit Sharma Remark About Mohammed Shami's Injury During NZ Tour?

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, in a press conference, agreed to the media reports and confirmed Shami's knee injury, which did not go well with Shami as it portrayed him as a hypocrite. 

"He recently had a setback - he had a swelling on his knee, which was quite unusual. He was in the process of getting fit - getting close to 100% - and he had swelling in his knee. That put him back a little bit in his recovery, so he had to start again fresh," Rohit had remarked during Press Conference.

Recently, Rohit Sharma provided an update on Shami's return to the squad and added that the doors are open for him once he is fully fit.
