In an unexpected turn of events, India’s fast bowling spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, was seen bowling leg spin in India’s recent net practice session at Gabba. Ahead of the third Test between India and Australia, the visitors hosted a net session, and Bumrah sidelined Ravichandran Ashwin to try his hand at spin bowling.
After a humiliating defeat in the second Test at Adelaide, India will be eyeing redemption in the third Test scheduled at Gabba, Brisbane. The five-game series stays currently levelled 1-1 after the hosts clinched the pink ball contest.
Team India arrived in Gabba earlier this week and dropped sweat in a lengthy net practice session. The session was held behind closed doors but a few media personnels managed to get a couple of sneak peaks.
Presenting Jasprit Bumrah: The leg spinner
In a strange video shared by Bharat Sundaresan, India’s fast bowling maestro, Jasprit Bumrah, interrupted Ravichandran Ashwin’s session to bowl a couple of leg spin deliveries. The unnatural sight caught the fans’ attention before Bumrah returned to business as usual.
The 31-year-old bowled to KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal at full throttle, leaving the onlookers mesmerised.
The Gabba wicket is expected to be challenging for the batters as the pitch curator warned of a lush green surface. Hence, given the challenging conditions, Rohit Sharma might be forced to bring a couple of changes to the final playing XI.
Rohit Sharma likely to reclaim his opening spot
In the pink ball Test played at Adelaide, Indian captain Rohit Sharma sacrificed his opening spot for KL Rahul, who played a key role in India’s mega victory in Perth. However, Rahul managed to score only 37 and 7 in two innings, thus contributing to India’s 10-wicket defeat. Hence, heading into the Gabba Test, Rohit is likely to reclaim his opening role. He also failed to make an impact at no.6, scoring just 3 and 6 runs in both innings.
