As per emerging reports, Indian captain Rohit Sharma will likely open the batting for the visitors in the upcoming third Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. The skipper demoted himself to number six, where he failed miserably with the bat, managing nine runs across two innings in the pink ball Test at Adelaide Oval.

Rohit Sharma To Replace KL Rahul As Opener In Brisbane: Report

However, India's latest practice session has hinted at Rohit Sharma's return to the top order. According to The Times Of India (TOI), the stylish batter faced India's rampant pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, fine-tuning his game against the new ball.

It's worth mentioning that Rohit didn't face the new ball bowlers in the lead-upto the second Test in Adelaide. So, as it seems, he will likely bat at his familiar opening slot, with KL Rahul losing his place in the top order.

Where Will KL Rahul Bat In Brisbane Test?

If Rohit Sharma returns to the top order, he will open the batting with swashbuckling southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rohit and Jaiswal have a stellar record as an opening duo, forming the sixth most successful pair in India's Test history.

On the other hand, Rohit's promotion will lead to KL Rahul's demotion in the batting order. The stylish Karnataka batter is accustomed to bat in the lower middle order, having played there in the latter phase of his career.

Also, given that Akash Deep has been quite active in the practice session, it won't be surprising if the Indian management replaces Harshit Rana with him, considering the latter's horrible performance in Adelaide.
