Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth believes that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will regain their form with the bat in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Srikkanth mentioned that Rohit might consider retiring from Test cricket if he doesn’t perform well against Australia. However, he feels it’s too early to discuss moving on from Kohli in the Test format.

In the recently concluded three-match Test series against New Zealand, both Kohli and Rohit struggled with the bat, raising questions about their future in Test cricket. New Zealand defeated India by 25 runs in the final Test in Mumbai to complete a 3-0 whitewash, marking the first time India lost a Test series of more than two matches without winning a single game. Both stars were out of form, with Kohli scoring just 93 runs and Rohit contributing 91 runs across the three Tests. Addressing this, Srikkanth shared his views on his YouTube show:

"100 percent, you have to start thinking ahead (if India doesn't do well in Australia). If Rohit Sharma doesn't do well, I think he himself will retire from Test cricket, for all you know. He will play ODIs only. He has already left T20I cricket. We have to keep in mind that he is also ageing. He is no longer getting younger," he said.

"At least, Rohit Sharma had the guts. Hats off to Rohit Sharma for accepting the fact that he played badly throughout the series and captained badly. That's a great thing. That's the first move of a player to get back to the rhythm. Accepting your fault is very important. That's a very important quality of a human being. He accepted it openly and that means he is on the road to recovery, that's my opinion," he added.

Talking about Virat, Srikkanth backed Kohli to regain his best form in Australia, citing his past successes in Australia.

"In my opinion, Virat Kohli will make a comeback in Australia. It’s his stronghold. I think it’s too early to consider moving on from him. He has plenty of time left in Test cricket, despite a couple of challenging years," he stated.

India will now travel to Australia for a five-Test series, starting in November in Perth, where Indian captain Rohit Sharma is expected to miss the first Test due to personal reasons. It is to be noted that this is an important series for India in order to remain in the WTC final contention.
