'They Should Have...' - Gavaskar Gives Rohit, Kohli Golden Advice Before BGT 2024

India are all set to face Australia in an all-important five-match Test series in Australia, which is set to start on November 22 in Perth. Ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the team had planned to play a warm-up match against India A. Unfortunately, the three-day match has been cancelled.
India great Sunil Gavaskar urged Team India to play warm-up game before heading into the Test series. Notably, this will be the first time young talents like Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are stepping onto Australian pitches, and they might need some time to adjust to the unique pace and bounce of the local wickets.
“I really do believe that they should have a warm-up game. In the gaps between Test matches, they really should have warm-up games. Not necessarily for the senior players. But for the junior players who have never played in Australia before. For the Yashasvi Jaiswals, the Sarfaraz Khans, the Dhruv Jurels, all these young batters. Even against an Australia A team or a state side like Queensland. Juniors must be given the opportunity to get used to the bounce and pitches in Australia,” Gavaskar told media.
Gavaskar Suggests Players To Focus On Regular Bowling
The cricketer-turned commentator also shared his thoughts on how the Indian players should practice.
"Just believe in yourself. Practice as much as you can. I think there is some merit in facing throwdowns. But it is more important to play regular bowling. Face the quicker bowlers. Not (Jasprit) Bumrah, of course, because Bumrah can kill you. But you can ask others to bowl from 20 yards instead of 22 yards. So therefore, the ball comes on to the bat quickly,” he added.
India Need To Win Four Match Against Aussies
As Men In Blue prepare to fly out to Australia, the stakes are high. In order to stay in the World Test Championship 2025 final contention, India need to win at least four of the five matches and cannot afford to lose any. If they lose even one game, they will have to rely on the outcomes of other matches to qualify.
