Rohit Sharma’s ascent in Indian cricket has been nothing short of extraordinary. From a promising young talent to a cornerstone of the Indian team, Sharma’s journey has been marked by resilience and success.

Jonty Rhodes, the former South African fielding legend, recently shared some intriguing insights about his time coaching with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, revealing a side of Rohit Sharma that might surprise many.

Rhodes, who was a crucial part of Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff during their golden years, took a moment to reflect on Sharma’s training habits. According to Rhodes, Rohit Sharma’s approach to practice was markedly different from that of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

“Rohit didn’t practice as hard as Sachin Tendulkar, and I think he doesn’t have the best technique either,” Rhodes disclosed on the Aleena Dissects podcast.

Despite these observations, Rohit's impact on the field has been undeniable. Leading Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles between 2013 and 2023, and captaining the Indian national team across formats, Rohit's success speaks volumes about his skill and leadership.

Rhodes emphasised that Rohit's success comes from his relaxed demeanour and natural hand flow rather than a textbook-perfect technique.

“He often gets slammed for not moving his feet in the crease, but he is so relaxed, and his hands flow help him in scoring runs,” Rhodes noted.

Rohit Sharma To Feature In Bangladesh Test Series

Rohit Sharma, who recently led India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and announced his retirement from T20Is, will now shift his focus to Test cricket. After a brief appearance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where India faced a series defeat, Rohit is set to make his return to the field in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai.
