On Sunday, Mohammad Rizwan was appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan white-ball team and it is fair to say that the newly appointed skipper has his hands full already. Apart from being concerned about the upcoming Australia tour, Rizwan also has off-field issues to take care of.

Recently a major controversy struck Pakistan cricket when they snubbed star batter, Fakhar Zaman from their central contract list. He was omitted from the contract list just weeks after he posted a tweet supporting Babar Azam and taking a dig at PCB for the way they dropped the former Test skipper from the England Tests.

However, on Sunday, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi stated that the decision to drop Fakhar was not solely due to the tweet, but because of fitness issues as well.

Rizwan in a media event acknowledged Fakhar's contribution towards Pakistan cricket, however, he also stated that Fakhar's inclusion in the side is not in his hands and the management will decide his fate.

“There’s no question about Fakhar’s impact, he is an influential player who can change the game single-handedly on any conditions. While some decisions are beyond my control, we have discussed his potential return and hope the matter will soon be resolved," Rizwan said.

Will work closely with whoever is appointed as white-ball coach: Rizwan

Rizwan further stated that his ultimate goal is to take Pakistan cricket to new heights and he will work closely with whoever gets appointed as the new Pakistan white ball coach.

Gary Kirsten, who was appointed the white ball coach in April, left his post a few days ago after his difference of opinion with the PCB. Mohsin Naqvi took away the selection power from the Pakistan coaches and they had no say in the selection process, something which frustrated Kirsten.

“When you’re playing for country then you’re beyond individuals. Our focus is always on playing for Pakistan, not on individual positions. Whoever is chosen as head coach, we will work together to achieve our goals," the Pakistan skipper stated.

Rizwan's first assignment will be against the Australian side as Pakistan travel Down Under for a white-ball series.
