Seems like Team India haven't learnt from their past mistakes and are once again trying to dig their own grave at the Wankhede Stadium, the venue for the 3rd Test Vs New Zealand. Earlier reports circulated that a sporting wicket will be prepared for the series finale, however, that has all changed now.

As per fresh reports from the Indian Express, the Indian team has demanded for a rank turner, just like the Pune surface as they eye a consolation win in the series against the Kiwis. The Indian side asked for a spin friendly track in Pune as well and the decision backfired as the home team got humiliated and lost the match, rather easily.

As per Indian Express, the Indian side weren't happy with the nature of the Wankhede surface and have urged the curator to prepare a spin friendly deck to support the spinners. The decision is quite baffling considering the fact that the home side crumbled against the Kiwi spinners in Pune.

Mitch Santner ran riot and scalped 13 wickets in the Pune Test as the Kiwis won their first-ever Test series in India. He picked up some vital wickets as the Indian batters failed to read him and crumbled under pressure to surrender the series.

"It will be rank turner pitch. The team management has requested to prepare a pitch which can help spinners from day 1. It seems the team wants to go on a tried and tested formula," Indian Express quoted a source as saying.

Wankhede Test crucial for India's WTC finale journey

India need to win 4 Tests out of the remaining 6 Test matches to seal their place in the WTC finale. However, out of the 6 Tests, India will play 5 against Australia, in their own backyard which makes their job even tougher.

Hence, with a challenging Aussie tour coming up, India will look to win the Wankhede Test, so that they only have to win 3 against the Aussies, Down Under.
