The wait is almost over as the IPL 2025 retention deadline day is just around the corner with all the 10 teams given October 31 as the last day to announce their retentions. There are so many permutations and combinations as the teams try and figure it out their best possible combination for the next season.
Ahead of the retention deadline day, there are 3 players who have been under the limelight for quite some time now. These three superstars are likely to leave their respective franchises to embark on a new journey. We are talking about Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
3) Rishabh Pant
Will he stay in Delhi, or will he leave the franchise? This has been a big question ahead of the retention day. Rumours state that Pant is eager to put forward his name in the auction table and the likes of CSK have kept an eye on him.
Pant is a captaincy candidate option for the Super Kings who are still looking for a long-term successor of MS Dhoni. The Indian wicket-keeper is in high demand as RCB have also kept their eyes on him. Will he be retained? Or will he be released? only time will tell.
2) Shreyas Iyer
The curious case of Shreyas Iyer. He led KKR to their third IPL title in 2024 but there is no guarantee that the franchise will retain him ahead of the next season. KKR is such a strong side that they have so many match-winners and thus the franchise will find it hard to decide on their retention list.
If Iyer does get release, there are plethora of teams lurking around for him. Many teams are searching for a permanent captain and Iyer can be a great fit for them.
1) KL Rahul
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul has had a tough couple of years with the Lucknow franchise. In the 2024 season, he had an on-camera heated exchanged with owner Sanjiv Goenka which led to the speculations that KL Rahul will leave the franchise.
Again, just like Pant and Iyer, teams will want KL's services if he enters the auction pool. A potential destination is RCB, a team for which he has played before. LSG has openly criticised KL Rahul for his strike-rate and it will be interesting to see whether LSG will retain him or not.
