Riyan Parag Reveals '350 Overs' Truth Behind Success With Ball: 'No One Sees That Because It Isn't Televised'

After years of struggling to make his mark, Riyan Parag finally came out of shell in the IPL 2024 season for the Rajasthan Royals. The talented all-rounder contributed both with the bat and ball and delivered the goods when it mattered the most.

Everyone underestimated Parag, the bowler

The all-rounder smashed 573 runs 16 matches and that stellar season helped him to get into the Indian side for the first time for the tour of Zimbabwe. Parag, had a mediocre outing with the bat on that tour, and to everyone's surprise, he was included in the white-ball squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.

While he was selected on that tour, purely on the based of his batting, Parag surprised everyone with his extraordinary bowling. In the first T20I of the series, the all-rounder picked 3 wickets and jusy conceded 5 runs as India won a nail-biting match. He also scalped 3 wickets on his ODI debut, and his spin-bowling came in as a breath of fresh air in the Indian side.

While others were stunned by his bowling efforts, Parag insisted that bowling isn't a new addition to his arsenal, as he has regularly contributed with the ball in domestic cricket for Assam.


“Everyone thinks I've especially worked on my bowling. But I've taken wickets in domestic cricket. I have bowled around 350 overs every season,” Parag told YouTube channel Sports with Ravish.

“No one sees that because it isn't televised. So, it has been going on for a long time. Because I genuinely want to do that. But now, when I bowled for India and in the IPL, it got highlighted more. But I haven't done anything extra on that,” he added.

Parag currently eyeing to impress selectors in Duleep Trophy

Currently, Parag is participating in the Duleep Trophy tournament and is playing for India A. His side, are currently facing India B in the opening fixture at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the all-rounder is currently batting alongside Indian star, KL Rahul.

India B scored a stellar 321 in their first innings, courtesy, a Musheer Khan hundred. In reply, India A have already lost 2 wickets for 79 runs.
