Sanju Samsom and Riyan Parag for RR (Source: AFP)
Sanju Samson, the current RR captain, reportedly wants to leave his franchise, and there are rumours that he would be traded to CSK. However, there has been no official statement by the stakeholders involved and recently, in an interview with Ashwin, Samson avoided the question pretty cleverly.
Badrinath Makes Bold Comment On Samson's Fallout With RR
However, various rumours are still floating around, and now S Badrinath, the former CSK star, has also given his opinion on his YouTube Channel about the Samson saga. Badrinath stated that how can one expect Sanju Samson to stay if you consider Riyan Parag as captain. Thus, Badrinath ended up blaming RR's captaincy decision for the fallout with Sanju Samson.
“I feel Riyan Parag is the reason. If you consider him for captaincy, how do you expect someone like Samson to stay? "If Sanju Samson does come to CSK, then he could be the like-for-like replacement for MS Dhoni,"S. Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel.
Badrinath also mentioned that Sanju Samson will be the like-for-like replacement of MS Dhoni if he joins the Yellove Army for IPL 2026. The former Indian cricketer also added that Samson can bat at the top three or four and is not a player who can bat lower down the order.
Badrinath Digs Deeper Into CSK's Playing XI If Samson Is Included
The player from Tamil Nadu also added that CSK already have settled players like Gaikwad, Brevis and Mhatre. He added that CSK might not spend a huge sum of money on Sanju Samson like MI did on Hardik Pandya. Badrinath also added that even if Samson is bought by CSK, there are question marks over how he can fit into the playing XI.
"Samson is a batter who can bat in the top three or four spots in the batting order. He is not someone who could fit in the number five or six spot in the playing XI. CSK are strong in those areas of the playing XI. Mhatre is settled, Gaikwad is settled, Brevis is settled. I am not sure if CSK would do a transaction like MI did to get Hardik Pandya from GT. So even if Sanju Samson comes in, the question remains whether CSK can fit him into the playing XI."
Thus, S. Badrinath has provided an interesting perspective on Sanju Samson's move from RR to CSK. He has cited a bold reason for Samson's exit and has also raised questions about CSK's playing XI combination if Sanju Samson eventually plays for them next season.
