Rishabh Pant made a memorable return to competitive cricket after a three-month layoff due to a toe injury sustained during India’s Manchester Test against England. Missing the two-match West Indies Test series, Pant showcased his resilience in the first game of the the two-match red-ball series against South Africa A, playing a pivotal role in India A’s thrilling second-innings chase and eventual victory.
Pant shares gratitude on Instagram after comeback
After an intense match that tested both his skill and stamina, Pant turned to social media to reflect on the experience. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter shared his feelings of gratitude, joy, and renewed motivation, highlighting the emotional journey of returning from injury and the satisfaction of contributing to a memorable team victory.
“3 months away from the game makes you appreciate every moment a little more. Felt amazing to be back out there again and even better to start with a win. Grateful to everyone who's helped me along the way. Onto the next one. #RP17”, Pant wrote in his Instagram post.
On the field, Pant’s comeback was a story of redemption. In India A’s first innings, he managed only 17 runs as the entire Indian batting unit, except Ayush Mhatre, struggled against South Africa A’s disciplined bowling attack.
However, he turned the game on its head in the second innings. Chasing 275, the India A skipper played a sensational 90, anchoring the innings with fearless stroke-play and composure with wickets falling repeatedly at the other end. He narrowly missed out on a century, but his performance set the stage for a thrilling finish.
The lower order then stepped up to seal the win with Manav Suthar and Anshul Kamboj stitching a vital 62-run partnership for the eighth wicket, guiding India A home in a tense finish. Pant’s contribution, combined with the lower-order heroics, underscored India A’s depth and fighting spirit.
