In a big development for the India Test cricket team, Rishabh Pant recently declared that he is fully fit and ready to play as the South Africa Test series looms in mid-November.
Pant, who was sidelined from cricket for a few months after a nasty foot fracture during the England vs India Test series in July, is now fully recovered, as he declared it himself during an interview with the BCCI at the CoE on the sidelines of the India A vs South Africa A 1st unofficial Test.
Rishabh Pant shares health update thanking CoE
Rishabh Pant, who is now leading the India A team, shared an elaborate update of his recovery journey from the toe-crushing yorker he took during the Manchester Test. He also didn't mince words while thanking the CoE staff for helping him out through this journey.
“I started my rehab gradually. In the early days, there was a lot of physiotherapy and careful monitoring. Once I regained some mobility, I began focusing on building strength, which marked the start of the second phase. Right now, I’m happy to say that I’m fully recovered, and I owe a big thanks to the CoE staff for helping me through it,” Pant added.
Pant, who is known for his heroic comeback from a life-threatening car accident, shared the perks of being positive. He shared how it is important to have optimistic thoughts during periods of recovery.
“Being positive is really a mindset thing. During an injury, it’s easy to lose motivation. Your energy levels drop, and frustration builds up. But if you can find small things that make you feel good, it’s important to hold onto them, especially when you’re going through that period,” Pant concluded.
Rishabh Pant positive for South Africa Tests?
Nevertheless, Pant's return with the bat was not very positive. In the first innings of the match, Pant faced 20 balls and was dismissed for just 17 runs by South African pacer Okuhle Cele. Yet, his comeback marks a big development for the Indian Test team.
India under Shubman Gill ended the England Test series in a 2-2 tie, and in the home Tests against South Africa, the wicketkeeper-batter's inclusion might spark the host's chances of having an experienced batter in the middle, which otherwise might have been replaced by an inexperienced Dhruv Jurel.
The squads for the upcoming Test series are yet to be declared, but the first Test of the two-match series, is already scheduled for November 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
