What made Gambhir’s message special was the genuine warmth and respect it carried.

Both share a memorable connection that traces back to Gambhir's days as the captain of KKR, which is co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan.

All under the leadership of Gambhir and ownership of SRK, KKR rose from dismal outings in the initial seasons of the IPL to becoming one of the most dominant franchises, lifting the IPL trophy thrice in 2012, 2014, and 2024.

However, after taking over the head coach’s role for the Indian senior national team, Gautam Gambhir resigned as KKR mentor.

When SRK raved about Gambhir’s return to KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan hailed Gautam Gambhir’s return as mentor in 2024 as the best thing to happen to KKR.

In an interview, SRK said Gambhir’s comeback felt like a homecoming and credited him for rebuilding the team on four strong pillars, such as unwavering trust in Mitchell Starc, promoting Sunil Narine as opener, reuniting with Shreyas Iyer, and investing in young talent.

Shah Rukh added that his bond with Gambhir has always been special, calling him not just a former captain but family to the KKR franchise.
