It’s not the ending anyone hoped for but Dewald Brevis has pulled the plug on his IPL 2025 journey, heading back to South Africa with the tournament on hold and Chennai Super Kings already out of the playoff race. The 21-year-old prodigy, who joined CSK mid-season as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, may have had a short stay but he made a lasting impression.
Dewald Brevis Signs Off From CSK With Heartfelt Message
Taking to Instagram, Dewald Brevis dropped a heartfelt farewell, sharing photos from his time in yellow and thanking everyone from the coaches to the fans.
“A big thank you to my Chennai team, coaches ,support staff and our amazing Chennai fans. The atmosphere at the Chepauk Stadium was electrifying. Thank you for the support all around India. The time I spend in India will always be close to my heart and the memories with Chennai will last a lifetime. See you soon…#Cricket #Yellove #IPL,” wrote Brevis.
The South African soaked in the love of CSK fans, lit up the field in whatever chances he got and gave CSK fans a glimpse of something special.
A Short Stay, But One To Remember
Brevis only featured in four matches but he made every innings count with 126 runs at a strike rate of 163.63, including a blazing 50 against Kolkata Knight Riders that had the crowd on its feet.
Notably, during that knock, he hammered 30 runs in a single over off Vaibhav Arora and reached his half-century in just 22 balls. For a side struggling to find momentum, Brevis was that spark CSK desperately needed.
CSK have had a season to forget: 3 wins from 12 matches with just two dead rubbers left to play. But even as this campaign fizzles out, there is a silver lining: Brevis may have done enough to earn a permanent spot in the CSK squad for IPL 2026.
His power-hitting, fearless intent and ability to own the big stage make him a hot ticket for next season. And CSK, who love their loyal stars, might just go all-in to bring him back.
