India A lost the first semifinal of the 2025 Rising Stars Asia Cup against Bangladesh A in a thrilling Super Over finish at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. Chasing 195 for a win, in-form opener and teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi laid out the early foundation with an explosive 15-ball 38, before Harsh Dubey and Nehal Wadhera scored three off the final ball.
However, India A failed to score a run in the Super Over, with captain Jitesh Sharma deciding against the idea of sending Suryavanshi to bat. The thriller seemingly caught the attention of former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently took a dig at the India A team for their tactical blunders in the tie-breaker.
Did Ravi Ashwin trolled India A team after defeat?
On Saturday, November 22; a day after India’s Super Over defeat to Bangladesh A, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to X and urged his followers to check out the thrilling Rising Stars Asia Cup semifinal match. The legendary all-rounder even claimed that the match will “stand the test of time.”
Taking to X, Ravichandran Ashwin wrote:
“In case you missed out India A v Ban A from yesterday, please don’t miss out. It will stand the test of time.”
Ravichandran Ashwin’s “test of time” remark may well have been a direct dig at the India A team management, particularly towards captain Jitesh Sharma, over their decision of not sending in-form Vaibhav Suryavanshi to bat in the Super Over.
Instead, captain Jitesh employed himself to bat, and was knocked over by young Bangladesh fast bowler Ripon Mondol. The speedster also dismissed IPL cult hero Ashutosh Sharma off the very next delivery, leaving Ramandeep Singh stranded at the crease as young Vaibhav Suryavanshi helplessly watched India’s debacle from the stands.
As a result, the India A team has been eliminated from the 2025 Rising Stars Asia Cup competition, with Bangladesh A reaching the finals to face unbeaten Pakistan Shaheens. The final will be played on November 23 at the same Doha venue from 8:00 PM IST onwards.
