New Zealand faced the West Indies in the third ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on Saturday, November 22, after already sealing the series in the first two matches of the three-match series. Here's how the game unfolded.
Henry and co. put the Kiwis at the top
As it has been one of Matt Henry's biggest strengths across formats, the bowler ripped through the WI top-order in the powerplay. Ackeem Auguste (17 off 19) top-edged a middle-leg stump delivery to Rachin Ravindra at mid-wicket, followed by Kaecy Carty (0) getting played on in the same over.
The middle order once again looked underwhelming apart from a short respite from Roston Chase, who added 38(51), as the pace battery and captain Mitchell Santner reduced got them from 77/3 to 95/7 within a span of 14th to 19th over.
Khary Pierre tried to add some runs for the final wicket with Jayden Seales, guiding WI to 161 with his unbeaten 22. Henry finished with 4/43 (9.2), Jacob Duffy and Mitchell Santner picked 2/27 each, while Kyle Jamieson and Zak Foulkes ended with 1/44(9) and 1/13 (4), respectively.
Seales-Forde strike early blows
Seales kept things extremely tight from an end and sent Devon Conway back to the hut, conceding only 12 from his first five overs. On the other end, Matthew Forde dimissed the other two batters in the Kiwis top-order and made the chase interesting.
Rachin Ravindra got played on at 14(22) as he tried to slash Forde through the square. He was followed by Will Young, who was dismissed to a Pierre one-handed stunner at covers.
Chapman and Bracewell avoid another thriller
Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell added 74(47) from 70/4 to help the hosts avoid an upseet in a small run-chase. Chapman scored 64(63) as the only fifty in the match, while Bracewell got 40*(31) as the hosts finished the job with 4 wickets left.
Jayden Seales finished with an impressive spell of 2/35 in his 8 overs. Forde took 2/46, while Shamar Springer and Chase scalped one each.
Up next, the two teams will go head on in a three-match Test series from December 2.
