India secured an impressive ten-wicket win against Nepal, ensuring their position in the Super Fours alongside arch-rivals, Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023.

Gill opened up on complementary batting style with Rohit

After a cautious start by captain Rohit Sharma chasing 230, rain played spoilsport, revising the target to 145 from 23 overs. Post-interruption, Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill displayed brilliant batting, both scoring half-centuries and sealing the win for India. Rohit stayed unbeaten on 74 off 59 balls whereas Gill also stayed till the end as he scored 67 off 62 balls.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Gill expressed some regret over his dismissal in the previous match but applauded his and Rohit’s combined effort in steering India to victory in this crucial game.

The prodigious opener further lauded his partnership with the captain and stated how their contrasting batting styles complement each other. He added that while Rohit has an inclination towards aerial shots, he himself prefers hitting boundaries along the ground.

"Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday. It was important for me to finish the game along with Rohit bhai and we did that. He (Rohit) is the kind of player who likes to take the bowlers on aerial. I am the kind of player who likes to hit more boundaries than aerial. That combination works quite well for us," said Gill.

Discussing Nepal's commendable bowling during the initial phase of India's innings, Gill mentioned how the team was prepared for the challenge. He reckoned that they were confident that batting would become easier as the ball got wet due to rain interruptions.

"They bowled very well with the new ball, they challenged us. We knew once the ball gets wet, it'll get easier for the batsmen. That's what the talk was in the dressing room," concluded the 23-year-old.
